The Astonishing Science behind top 4 Indian traditions and beliefs regarding temples

Have you ever been to a temple? *Expecting a yes, but okay if it's a no* So why rituals are performed in front of a sacred fire? Why do we perform ¨aarti¨ (a Hindu religious ritual of worship, a part of puja, in which light (usually from a flame) is used)? Why do we need to go barefoot? (Have your slippers got stolen in a temple? Lol, if yes) Why do we ring temple bells? Do you have these questions? If yes then you have come to the right place!

To start with, a temple is a building reserved for religious or spiritual rituals and activities such as prayer and sacrifice, or in simple words, a temple is a place of worship. Indian worshiping methods inside a temple involve so many precise rituals. Everything is designed scientifically.

The reason behind walking barefoot in any place of worship: Whether it is a temple, mosque, or a gurdwara. These are the places with high positive energy. The devotees are asked to walk barefoot inside the place of worship so that the positive vibrations or the positive energy can easily get absorbed through their feet.

The science behind using the cone shell (known as a shank):
During ¨aarti¨ (Ritual in Hinduism while worshiping the god), the cone shell would invariably blow (shank in Hindi). Since the villages were generally small the sound of the conch would resound all over the village, spreading the positive aura. The structure of the conch shell is also made with precision measurements. The cone emits frequencies of sound ways of divine energy, the projection of circles of divine consciousness, and the emissions of the particles of Bliss. Also, the sound generated by the traditional cone shell is believed to purify the environment. This generates a Calming and relaxing effect on the mind. In Islam, this is achieved by the ¨Azzan¨ (the calling of prayer).

The science behind burning sacred fire during ¨Yagna¨/¨ Havan¨/¨Aarti¨: Yagna or hawan: It is performed in front of a sacred fire. Havan is the action where special herbs are offered in the fire of medicinal woods ignited in a specially designed fire pit.  You may feel that it just burns ¨ghee¨, herbs into ashes. Due to the highest temperature of fire the vapors of these oils enter into the central nervous system through the nasal route (nose). This might keep the therapeutic components in the body and help in preventing epilepsy (A disorder in which nerve cell activity in the brain is disturbed, causing sudden changes in your behavior, movements or feelings, and in levels of consciousness.) To add on it is a sophisticated process to purify the surroundings according to the observations made by Dr. L Matela Anantoshka of Poland after using P.S.I techniques.

The science behind ringing temple bells: Traditional Indian worship always started with the ringing of the temple bells. The temple bell was crafted beautifully and precisely using several metals including zinc, copper, bronze, cadmium, manganese, etc. Using several metals helped in preventing corrosion. The quantity of each metal was based on a very accurate scientific calculation. When the bell rang, there was a resonation that created an immediate harmony between the left and right lobes of the brain. The echo lasted for seven seconds due to the scientific calculation using the concepts of frequency, wavelengths, and amplitudes. This

touches the 7 chakras or the energy points of the body. The sound

of the bell created an instant calm increasing the power of concentration

helping you to concentrate better.

These were the top 4 Indian traditions and beliefs followed at the temple. Everything is based on science. Often we are asked to ¨Do not ask why!¨ when it comes to traditions and beliefs but to respect our culture and improve our lifestyles, we need to ask why. Let's preserve our culture and traditions.
